What is a Trigger Point?
A trigger point is an irritable tight spot in a taut band of skeletal muscles.
Why Do I Have Trigger Points?
Taut bands occur in our bodies due to many factors, such as:
* Keeping the muscle in shortened positions, such as sitting and driving
* Injury causes muscles to contract in defense activation and sometimes they never deactivate
* Stress causes muscles to tighten, holding the body tight – treating these muscles can also help relieve stress
* Repetitive Overuse (typing, factory, playing instruments, doing massage therapy)
* Underlying Perpetuating Factors
What is Referred Pain?
The pain and discomfort we suffer from trigger points can often be felt at a distant point away from the actual muscle with the problem.
Extensive medical studies were conducted to identify exact mappings of where we feel pain when there is a trigger point in each muscle of our bodies.
